These extendable loppers started out great for clearing out some overgrown branches around the yard. The steel blades are genuinely sharp right out of the box, and when you use them at their shortest 24-inch length, they provide excellent leverage and cut through moderately thick wood with very little effort. The rubberized grips are also reasonably comfortable and prevent your hands from slipping during a long afternoon of pruning. However, I have to drop my rating to 3 stars because the extendable feature—which is the main reason I bought them—is quite flawed. The locking mechanism that holds the handles at the extended lengths (up to 42 inches) simply isn't strong enough. When you are fully extended and trying to cut through a thicker, tougher branch, the handles tend to slip or twist inward, causing you to lose all your cutting power right in the middle of a squeeze. If you are only doing light pruning or sticking to softer wood, these will probably get the job done just fine. But if you truly need a "heavy-duty" cutter for thick branches at maximum reach, the unstable extension locks make the job much more frustrating than it needs to be.
Great extensibility from 24 to 42 inches provides excellent reach for overhead work. Fairly sharp SK5 steel blade handles fresh, green wood well. They're pretty easy to use and general comfortable when handling. I've mostly been trimming dead branches off fruit trees in my orchard where anything head height or slightly over is easy to deal with without needing a ladder. The compound action mechanism does provide decent leverage for cutting when the tool is working properly. However, it's overpriced for the quality and performance delivered. I haven't used this on very hard wood and I have my doubts about how it would perform on dense, mature hardwood branches despite the advertised 1.8" capacity. The aluminum handles feel adequate but not exceptional for the price point. The critical flaw is the extension mechanism: when extended, the locking mechanism tends to slip under pressure, which makes cutting more difficult. Mid-cut, the handles collapse or shift position, forcing you to constantly readjust your grip and re-extend the tool. This undermines the entire benefit of having telescoping handles in the first place. Works acceptably for light pruning at height on softer wood, but the slipping lock and higher price make it hard to recommend when more reliable options likely exist.
